We are Grow West.

We educate, grow and provide to the people of West Cumbria.

Our 12-acre market garden site, situated in Allerby provides essential training opportunities for young people and adults with disabilities in our community. As a proud enterprise of West House, we work to give them knowledge, experience and accredited qualifications in horticulture. This helps our trainees with their confidence and everyday skills, helping to set them up for future employment opportunities.

Using our garden as an educational tool for our trainees, we are able to grow a range of seasonal fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants. These are available to purchase from our on-site farm shop or through our vegetable box delivery scheme as well as being used in the production of our preserves and in our enterprise partner café, Cafe West.

How it works

Grow

We grow and handpick a range of seasonal fruit and vegetables on our market garden site to go into our vegetable boxes. To ensure your box is full to the brim with colour and flavour, we also have a network of UK growers who supply us with a range of quality produce.

Choose

Choose your veg box which will include root veg, orchard fruits and leafy greens depending on the seasons. We will be launching a range of sizes soon along with optional extras such as eggs and bedding plants.

We offer free delivery on Wednesdays and Thursdays within West Cumbria OR use our click and collect to pick up your order from Cafe West in Workington every Thursday from 12-3pm with a free cuppa upon collection. Once you receive your box, you can start cooking up a storm with your fresh fruit and veg!

About our garden

In our 12-acre garden, we grow a range of flowers, plants and vegetables with the help of our resident gardners and trainee growers.

We make full use of approximately 2½ acres of land by making raised and retained beds of a manageable size. We also have an area of 8.8m³ composting area to recycle all plant and paper waste produced on-site, cutting down on landfill and waste collection.

Examples of what we grow include annuals, bedding plants, carrots, onions, cabbages and parsnips. We also have our own orchard where we grow a variety of apples.
